4 Hours in Mauritius

Today the face to face immigration process started at 6AM.  I got up around 5:45 and then waited for my sea to be called…  For about twenty minutes until I realized seas weren’t being called and just got in line to go through immigration anyway.  I met some friends for breakfast and to decide what to do.  We planned to meet at my room as soon as we were allowed off of the ship.
Yesenia, Jeff (Aunt Donna, this is the guy you met), Matt, Liz K, Liz O, Josh and I all met at my room and immediately went to stand in line to get off of the ship.  The line to the gangway wrapped up all the way from the 2nd deck to the 6th.  We stood in line for about 15 minutes before we finally stepped off of the ship and onto Mauritius.  We only had four hours while on shore so we started walking immediately.  This is how our plan went.

1.      Get off of ship and start walking
2.      Keep walking
3.      Don’t get run over
4.      Don’t get hit by that truck
b.      Or that truck
c.-z. Or that truck
5.      Walk back to the ship.

We walked to the waterfront.  There were a lot of shops there, but they weren’t open until 9:30 and it was only about 9:00.  We found some free Wifi, which would have been really cool if I had brought my computer, which I didn’t, so it was sad.  When the shops opened we walked around and shopped.  I bought an awesome cook book called “Traditional Indian Cooking in South Africa,” which is amazing since I bought it in Mauritius and I am visiting all three of those countries!
We headed back to the ship, stopping at McDonalds on the way so we could get cheeseburgers, so we could make it back to the ship before noon.  I could have spent a long time wandering around Mauritius, but since we had such limited time I didn’t get to do near as much as I would have liked to do.  It was still a really cool place to visit!  It was really great that the staff was able to get us some time on the island at all.
The Officer’s club all met up to watch some of the Office since we had some time before meeting some people for second lunch.  Then we watched more of the Office…  Then I did schoolwork, played guitar, and ate dinner.  Then watched some more Office.
So that’s it for today!  Mauritius was absolutely beautiful, hopefully someday I can come back and see more of it!
